A grand table lamp crafted in the Moscow workshop of Nedmirov-Kolodkin around 1890, representing a rare and expressive example of late Russian Neo-Empire aesthetics, uniting noble 84-standard silver with a monolithic rhodonite column. The tall triangular shaft of vivid Ural rhodonite rises above an architecturally formed base enriched with cast silver ornaments: acanthus leaves, scrolls, cartouches and garlands, executed with the workshop’s characteristic refinement of modelling and delicacy of relief.
A later emerald-green pleated shade completes the silhouette and is adorned with silver wreaths, ribbons and ornamental elements echoing the decorative vocabulary of late nineteenth-century Russian Neo-Empire. The lamp belongs to the category of representative interior objects intended for formal studies and salons, where the interplay of silver and rhodonite accentuated splendour and status.

In the second half of the nineteenth century, Moscow silver workshops reached an exceptional artistic level, responding to the tastes of the aristocracy and shaping the visual splendour of elite interiors. The Nedmirov-Kolodkin workshop ranked among the most prestigious, distinguished by the honour of being a Supplier to the Court of His Imperial Majesty, attesting to the superior quality and strict standards of its production.
Russian Neo-Empire of the late nineteenth century experienced a renewed flourishing, inspired by the ideals and monumental language of the age of Alexander I. Architectural silhouettes, victory wreaths, acanthus foliage and symbolic ornamentation emphasised the ceremonial nature of interior objects destined for formal halls, reception rooms and high-status private residences. Their monumental and solemn character made them markers of prestige and cultural sophistication.
Rhodonite, one of the most expressive decorative stones of the Ural region, played a significant role in Russian lapidary art. Its vivid pink-crimson tones with dark veining created striking visual contrasts when paired with silver, turning such pieces into focal accents within luxurious interiors. Comparable rhodonite works are preserved in the Kremlin Museums and the State Historical Museum, where they illustrate the refinement of Russian decorative art in the late nineteenth century.
This lamp is a rare, technically complex work in which the craftsmanship of the silversmith, the lapidary and the decorative sculptor are harmoniously combined. The excellence of materials, the architectural integrity of the form and the prestige of the workshop elevate it to an important example of Russian decorative art of its time.
Good overall condition. Even patina to silver, minimal signs of wear. Rhodonite without chips or cracks. Later shade preserved in excellent condition.
