An expressive and rare porcelain vase “Daisies,” created in 1915 at the Imperial Porcelain Factory, belongs to the significant works of the late Imperial period. The conical form, gently narrowing towards the base, reflects the aesthetics of Russian Art Nouveau and the era’s characteristic unity of silhouette.

The painted frieze of field daisies was executed after a design by Nikolai Fyodorovich Daladugin. The decoration is carried out in underglaze polychrome technique with a monochrome ground covering. The floral motif is treated with painterly freedom and subtle tonal transitions, creating an effect of depth and lightness.

The vase was produced during the First World War and was intended for charitable auctions of the Imperial Family. The proceeds were directed towards sanitary trains, hospitals, and assistance to wounded soldiers.

Marks: Green underglaze mark stamped on biscuit “H II 1915” beneath the Imperial crown; incised initial “M” in the body - turner Gavriil Stepanovich Mironov.

Dimensions: Height: 31 cm, Diameter: 16 cm

Provenance: Charitable auctions of the Imperial Family, 1915.

Between 1900 and 1916, a substantial part of the artistic production of the Imperial Porcelain and Glass Factory consisted of authorial vases executed in underglaze painting. Each such work was produced as a unique piece and classified as an individual artistic creation. Artists developed designs based on direct observation of nature in the surroundings of Saint Petersburg, the Imperial Botanical Garden, and factory greenhouses, lending floral compositions a remarkable vitality and authenticity.

Nikolai Fyodorovich Daladugin was among the leading masters of floral and landscape painting at the factory. In 1915 he painted the vase “Daisies” in underglaze technique, a method demanding exceptional precision in working with porcelain body and pigments. The incised letter “M” identifies the turner Gavriil Stepanovich Mironov, responsible for shaping the form.

During the First World War, the Imperial Porcelain Factory actively participated in charitable initiatives of the Imperial House. Vases produced in 1915-1916 were intended for charity lotteries, the proceeds supporting sanitary trains, hospitals, and wounded soldiers. The present vase is an authentic work of the Imperial Porcelain Factory and possesses significant historical and artistic value.
