A richly decorated Italian silver wine cooler executed in the form of a tall vase, representing an expressive example of decorative and applied art of the mature Art Deco period with a pronounced dialogue with Neo-Baroque aesthetics. The elongated body features a wave-shaped, rhythmically articulated silhouette emphasized by vertical facets that create a strong architectural presence. The upper rim is finished with an elaborate shaped border incorporating pierced elements, shells, and scrolling volutes.
Along the ribs of the body are applied high-relief decorative mounts depicting grape clusters, vine leaves, and stylized tendrils, directly referencing the classical iconography of wine culture and ceremonial tableware. The massive handles, formed as scrolling grapevine tendrils, are sculpturally expressive and underline the prestigious character of the object. The waisted base is enriched with bold Baroque scrollwork and rests on a stable circular foot with a profiled band. The interior retains traces of hand finishing, characteristic of Italian silverwork from the first half of the twentieth century.
Marks: Italian silver standard “800” in an oval cartouche; national hallmark with the head of Medusa in an octagon; diamond-shaped registration mark of Modena with the number “48” and a vertical fasces (lictor’s axe); letter designation “MO”.
