A large ceremonial kovsh executed in silver with gilding and cloisonné polychrome enamels. The body is formed with pronounced gadrooning, each facet adorned with elaborate floral compositions of flowers and scrolling foliage. The enamels are applied on alternating grounds of green, white, and blue, creating a richly rhythmic decorative surface. The upper section is encircled by a continuous frieze of leafy and floral arabesques in cloisonné enamels set against a matte gilt ground. The interior is fully gilt, emphasizing the ceremonial character of the object. The handle and front panel are similarly decorated with floral motifs in cloisonné polychrome enamels on a sky-blue ground. The form and ornamentation reflect the Neo-Russian style combined with elements of Art Nouveau, characteristic of the Moscow school in the early 20th century.

Founded in Moscow in 1852, the firm of Pavel Akimovich Ovtchinnikov was among the most prominent silversmithing and jewelry workshops of the Russian Empire and held the prestigious title of Purveyor to the Court of His Imperial Majesty. The workshop became renowned for its exceptional quality of silverwork, mastery of cloisonné and champlevé enamels, and refined ornamental design. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Ovtchinnikov’s productions had come to define the Moscow school of decorative arts, combining national revival forms with the aesthetics of Art Nouveau.
The kovsh, rooted in ancient Russian tradition, was reinterpreted during the period of Neo-Russian historicism as a ceremonial object for formal interiors and festive occasions. The years 1908–1917 represent the final and most refined phase of the firm’s activity, when technical excellence and artistic expression reached their peak. Works of this type are today regarded as museum-quality examples of Russian decorative art from the early 20th century.

Overall condition is good. Minor traces of age and use. The gilding shows natural patina with light surface wear. The enamels are intact, without chips or signs of restoration. Marks are clearly legible, with moderate wear.
